Meet the Hockley Community: Rough Trade
The record store and venue from the iconic Rough Trade record label has stores in Bristol, London, New York and just round the corner from Fruit Market in Nottingham. Founded by Geoff Travis in 1976, Rough Trade began life as a record store in Ladbroke Grove, London. Within a couple of years, they had developed their own record label and set up the very first distribution network making independent music available to a wider audience for the very first time. This was a game changing move for independent music in the UK. Almost half a decade later, this is still their game and Rough Trade Nottingham remains one of the best record shops in the country and it's just on the doorstep of Fruit Market. This well stocked record shop covers the latest independent releases, music from all continents, cutting edge electronic music and the timeless classics of rock, jazz, soul, funk and more. They also sell good record players too, so if you fancy putting your feet up and listening to some excellent new sounds in your new Fruit Market lounge then Rough Trade is a great place to begin.
The upstairs venue hosts live music from local and international artists, record signings and a whole host of events that embrace the local music scene and creative community too. So if you fancy seeing some great live music in an intimate setting, then Rough Trade is the one.
